Best Time to Visit Tulum and Playa del Carmen: Month-by-Month Guide

The Riviera Maya is warm all year, but the best time to visit depends on what matters most to you: perfect beaches, lower prices or fewer crowds.

The short answer

• Best overall: November to April. Dry, sunny, less humid and usually little sargassum.
• Best value: late April to June, and September to early November, outside holiday weeks.
• Busiest and most expensive: Christmas and New Year, Easter week, and US spring break in March.

Hurricane season

Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June to November, with the highest risk from August to October. Most weeks pass with nothing more than tropical rain, but we recommend travel insurance for trips in those months and flexible booking where possible.

Our favorite times

• Late November to mid-December: great weather and calm before the holiday rush.
• January and February: postcard beaches and lively towns.
• October: quiet, green and the best value of the year, with cenotes at their most peaceful.
